December 4, 2023
'WINES OF THE WEEK'
AVAILABLE 12/4 - 12/10
Winemaker Chris Corley has selected six special wines this week to celebrate National Cabernet Franc Day! We've been growing delicious, robust and well-balanced Cabernet Franc for more than 30 years. We're big believers in the varietal, with four distinct clones growing in six blocks on two different vineyards.
All of these special selection wines are predominantly driven by this noble grape, and range from our current offering Vintage 2019, back through our Library to Vintage 2006. Blend percentages are listed for each wine.

The CORLEY Proprietary Red Wine blend is the most flexible wine we make with regards to blending different varietals, so is always one of my favorite wines to work with at the blending table. In 2009, we pushed the fruit as far towards ripeness as we could without sacrificing the balance of acidity. The fruit was hand-sorted on the crush pad and the individual varietals were fermented separately in stainless steel tanks. The primary blend was put together 12 months into the aging process, and subsequent complements to the blend were done at 18 and 24 months. In all the wine was aged for 28 months in barrel prior to bottling in early 2012.
This wine has wonderful aromas of dark berries, toasty oak, mocha and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is seamless. The midpalate is exploding with dark fruit and a rich texture, framed by big yet gentle tannins. The finish is warm, lingering, inviting.
39% Cabernet Franc
18% Cabernet Sauvignon
The dark fruit and berry aromas mix beautifully with the vanilla and mocha oak
influences. I also find a nice smokiness from the toasted oak in the background;
it is a very inviting aroma. On the palate, the wine has a firm but appealing entry.
The tannins are medium in intensity and frame the rich texture beautifully. The wine
is full of dark fruit and dark chocolate flavor. With an hour or so in the glass, this
wine opens up to even more layers of fruit in both the nose and on the palate. The
finish lasts and lasts.
100% Cabernet Franc
Our 2019 Cabernet Franc was hand-picked, then destemmed and berry-sorted on the crush pad. Fermentation lasted 12 days with the wine drained and pressed at dryness. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrels. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 24 months. 1/3 new French oak. Since the wine is 100% varietal, there was no blending, but the barrel selection was completed at 18 months aging, 6 months prior to bottling.
54% Cabernet Franc
This wine is showing nice red-berry and blackberry aromas with accents of eucalyptus and other nice herbal spice notes on the nose. On the palate the wine is showing an exceptional balance of rich texture, fine-grained tannins and a gentle acidity which forms a nice backbone to the vibrant fruit flavors. The wine has a gentle but lasting and well-structured finish which should fare well with a rich meal or a backyard burger.
It will drink well now, through 2022. In its youth, and likely beyond, this richly textured wine will reward the patient oenophile. Decant for 45 minutes.

100% Cabernet Franc
This is a dark, powerful wine, extracted from slowly and fully ripened fruit. On the nose the wine offers copious dark berry fruit, with nicely integrated, lightly toasted oak aromas, and hints of vanilla. In the background there are hints of pepper and spice, which elevate and balance the aromas of this wine. On the palate, the wine is big and well-extracted. It bursts onto the palate with a deeply layered texture and medium-grain tannins, followed by a lush mid-palate and a long lingering finish.
44% Cabernet Franc
18% Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine has a deep and vibrant magenta hue that persists to the edge of the glass. The aromas are very inviting, enticing with tones of dark berry fruits, chocolate and smoky coffee. On the palate the wine makes a bold entrance which is reaffirmed by a strong personality at its core. The mid-palate is big and the wine is nicely framed with chewy tannins that will allow this wine to age gracefully well into the next decade. The finish is long and lingering and this wine will reward the patient oenophile. Decant for 30 – 60 min.
